Colleagues cut class for 2hrs demanding charge-sheet

Rajshahi University teachers yesterday observed a two-hour work abstention demanding immediate submission of the charge-sheet in sociology teacher AKM Shafiul Islam murder case.
As per the programme declared on Thursday, teachers of all departments and institutes under Rajshahi University Teachers' Association (Ruta) observed the abstention from 10:00am to 12:00pm.
Once before on November 18, the teachers gave an ultimatum of 15 days to submit the charge sheet.
Prof Pradip Kumar Pandey, Ruta's general secretary, yesterday threatened to launch a tougher agitation if the charge sheet is not submitted immediately.
The teachers also expressed their dissatisfaction with the slow investigation.
Contacted, Alamgir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Motihar Police Station, and also an investigation officer of the case, said the case is a top priority and they are trying to submit the charge sheet as soon as possible.
Prof Shafiul, 48, was hacked to death before his house near RU campus on November 15.
According to Rapid Action Battalion, some Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal men killed him over personal grudges.
Law enforcers have so far arrested 17 people, including six Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal men and eight Jamaat-Shibir men, and 12 of them were remanded.
