Clashing Jamaat man shot by police
An activist of Jamaat-e-Islami was injured when police, being attacked by the party men, opened fire during a clash in Jessore Sadar upazila early today.
The Jamaat activist -- Muhaid Hussain, 28, son of Abdus Salam of Baulia village under Sadar upazila, is former president of Jessore City College unit of Islami Chhatra Shibir.
A constable of Jessore Kotwali Police Station, Bulbul Ahmad suffered minor splinter injuries during the incident.
Informed that Golam Rashul, ameer of Jessore town unit of Jamaat, and some activists of the party were holding a secret meeting at Jhumjhumpur in Sadar upazila to conduct subversive activists in the town, a team of Jessore Kotwali police conducted a raid there, said Emdadul Haque Sheikh, officer in charge of Kotwali police station.
"When the police team reached the area, Jamaat-Shibir activists threw 5/6 crude bombs, prompting the police to fire three rounds of bullets at them.
Muhaid Hossain sustained bullet injury on the left leg while others fled. A one shooter gun and one bullet were also recovered from there," he said.
Muhaid was undergoing treatment at Jessore Medical College Hospital while Bulbul took primary treatment.
