Woman in critical state as 'husband throws boiling water’
A woman was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital's burn unit in critical condition yesterday after allegedly being splashed with boiling water by her husband following an altercation at their Uttar Badda residence in the capital.
Purnima Akter, 26, suffered 30 percent burns, said Resident Surgeon Partha Sankar Pal.
Her husband of four and a half years Mizanur Rahman often tortured her and recently asked her to leave her job as a restaurant security guard, accusing her of having an extramarital affair, her brother Amir Hossain told The Daily Star.
As Purnima refused to comply, arguing that the family needed the money, Mizanur got furious, he said, adding that the couple had a severe quarrel yesterday morning.
At one stage, Mizanur poured boiling water while she was cooking around 10:30am and fled, said Amir.
Badda Police Station Officer-in-Charge MA Jalil said they were trying to arrest Mizanur.
