Two lakh units of power stolen in capital's Jatrabari
A special taskforce of Dhaka Power Distribution Company (DPDC) in a five-hour drive yesterday discovered that two lakh units of electricity was stolen in the capital's Jatrabari area.
A source in the company told The Daily Star that following a tip-off, the taskforce found a businessman in Jatrabari's Samad Market, Md Selim, who allegedly got illegal connections from three feeders of DPDC and supplied electricity to more than 100 clients in the area for monthly fees between Tk 500 and Tk 3,500.
"He told his clients that the electricity was generated by his generator, which was in fact out of order," according to the source.
"A syndicate is involved in the pilferage and personnel in DPDC might also be involved," the source added.
The out-of-order generator was seized by the taskforce led by Md Munir Chowdhury, head of the force, and a case was filed against Selim who is in hiding.
