RU BCL men 'beat staff, threaten provost'
Two Rajshahi University staff were beaten up and a provost was threatened allegedly by two Bangladesh Chhatra League leaders in separate incidents on Friday night.
Organising Secretary Abu Salim Tushar and Deputy Office Secretary Abdullah Al Mamun Shimul deny the allegations.
Fariduzzaman, in-charge of Motihar Hall's indoor games equipment, said he was slapped and hit on the head with a brick after he "requested" Tushar, a resident of Shah Mukhdum Hall, to let the hall's resident students have a go at carom around 9:00pm.
Provost Prof Jahangir Alam Saud said he was met by abusive language when he called up Tushar afterwards. He added that he registered a complaint with the registrar and that he found nothing wrong in Fariduzzaman's "request".
Staff have no such jurisdiction while students are entitled to the equipment of all halls.
Meanwhile, Swapan Sarker, a guard who runs a laundry in Sher-e-Bangla Hall, said he was beaten with a stick around 8:00pm after "asking" Mamun to get his clothes ironed the next day, citing that he was ill and closing business for the day.
RU BCL President Mizanur Rahman Rana and Proctor Prof Tarikul Hasan assured of punitive measures if their respective investigations proved the allegations to be true.
