Rickshaw-puller rewarded for honesty
The rickshaw-puller, who found Tk 85,000 on a road in Sylhet city on June 11 and handed over the money to the law enforcers, was rewarded by the Sylhet district administration yesterday for his act of honesty.
He found the money near Bandarbazar road and started looking for the owner. He then went to nearby Zindabazar area and handed over the money to two magistrates, conducting a drive there. Then, he left.
The magistrates on that day said his name was Akhtaruzzaman. They were able to trace him yesterday. It turns out that his name is Abdul Aziz Khan Janu Miah, 55.
The father of five lives in Baluchar area and has been pulling rickshaw since 1996.
Numeri Jaman, deputy commissioner of Sylhet, rewarded him with Tk 5,000 at her office. The administration said they would help him get a new rickshaw.
This newspaper ran a story on the rickshaw-puller on June 12 under the headline, “A rare act of honesty”.
