Police sue 108 Ctg Shibir men
Police yesterday filed two cases against 108 leaders and activists of Islam Chhatra Shibir in connection with their clash with Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) men at Chittagong Government College during Victory Day celebrations.
Eighteen of the accused were named, including President of Shibir's Chittagong College unit Abu Raihan Uddin, General Secretary Kaisar Mahmud Raihan, Government Mohsin College Shibir President Tofayel and General Secretary Nasir Uddin. All four are absconding.
The 14 others were sent to jail yesterday.
According to the two cases, filed for destructive activities and possession of arms, 100 to 120 Shibir men attacked BCL activists of Chittagong College when the latter were placing wreaths at the Shaheed Minar on the campus, leading to a clash. It injured three people.
Chittagong College and Mohsin College, located opposite each other, are known as the strongholds of Shibir in Chittagong city.
Shibir established supremacy in the two colleges in 1980s, said a then BCL leader.
An incumbent leader said BCL was observing Victory Day on the campus for the first time under its banner after nearly three decades.
Meanwhile, Chittagong University unit of BCL yesterday demanded resignation of three assistant proctors accusing them of failing to stop a clash between the student body's two factions on November 2.
The three teachers are Anowar Hossain Chowdhury, Liton Mitra, and Helal Uddin.
