ULAB hosts conference on culture and religion
The eighth biennial conference of the South and Southeast Asian Association for the Study of Culture and Religion (SSEASR) was inaugurated yesterday on the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) campus in the capital’s Dhanmondi, said a press release.
Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni was the chief guest, and Indian High Commissioner Riva Ganguly Das was the guest of honour at the event. Along with other guests, Dr Dipu Moni inaugurated the conference.
ULAB Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr HM Jahirul Haque gave the welcome speech, and BR Mani, director general of National Museum of India and Vice-Chancellor of National Museum Institute, Ministry of Culture, Government of India, delivered the keynote speech.
The opening day saw around 50 scholars presenting papers in 10 sessions taking place on different subthemes including major rivers and their valleys, South and Southeast Asian diaspora, art, architecture and archaeology.
