Swechchhasebak Dal leader arrested from procession
Police yesterday arrested the joint convener of Sylhet district Swechchhasebak Dal, a volunteers' organisation of BNP, after foiling a procession of pro-BNP organisations in Bandarbazar area of Sylhet city.
The procession was brought out by Swechchhasebak Dal, Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal to press home their demand of BNP chief Khaleda Zia's release from prison.
Farhad Chowdhury Shamim, convener of Sylhet city Swechchhasebak Dal, said a number of their leaders and activists were injured when police suppressed their procession, called by central BNP, and arrested Sylhet district Swechchhasebak Dal Joint Convener Moududul Haque.
Mohammad Selim Miah, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said they dispersed the procession as it was brought out without due permission.
They arrested one individual from the spot as the people gathered in the area “clashed with police”, he claimed.
