Police today claimed that a mugger was killed in a gunfight with members of Detective Branch of police in Dhaka's Khilgaon area early today.

The deceased -- Mona (32) -- is one of the muggers responsible for the death of a woman who fell from a rickshaw after muggers snatched her bag in the capital's Mugda on February 29, Deputy Commissioner (east division) of DB, Asaduzzaman.

Detectives yesterday arrested four people in this connection. Later, based on their information, police raided Khilgaon's Nagdarpar area around 3:00am to arrest other members of the gang, the DC said.

Sensing presence of police, the criminals opened fire, according to the police official. This prompted the law enforcers to fire back, triggering a gunfight during which Mona was shot, he added.
