Steps taken to make NID service more efficient
The government has taken various steps to make NID services more efficient and dynamic, Law Minister Anisul Haque told parliament yesterday.
Anisul, who is in charge of the Election Commission secretariat in parliamentary affairs, said posts of thana/upazila assistant election officer and data entry operator have been created. The NID service will be more dynamic once the recruitment processes for the posts are completed.
The minister said this while replying to lawmakers' queries.
At the beginning of the House proceedings, Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, who was presiding over the session, tabled the Q/A scheduled for ministers.
In a scripted answer, the law minister said 7,32,363 people in the country have registered online to get NID (National Identity Card) services so far.
The minister said NID services have been decentralised for speedy disposal of applications. Central and field level officials have been given the power to dispose those of according to the type of application.
EPZ IN 3 DISTRICTS
Responding to a question from MP Didarul Alam, Minister for Liberation War Affairs Akam Mozammel Haque, who is in charge of the Prime Minister's Office in parliamentary affairs, said the government has allotted 1,832.27 acres of land of Sahebganj mill in Rangpur Sugar Mills to set up Rangpur EPZ.
He also said the government has planned to set up EPZ (Export Processing Zone) at Prembagh Union's Chengutia under Avoynagar upazila in Jashore. Besides, another EPZ will be set up at Sadar upazila in Patuakhali.
Construction works will begin in the next financial year (2021-22) and will be completed in phases by 2024, he added.
Meanwhile, replying to a question from AKM Rahmatullah of Dhaka-11, LGRD Minister Tazul Islam said arsenic screening is being conducted in 3,200 unions of 335 upazilas under 54 districts.
