Six killed in road accidents
Six people, including a schoolgirl, were killed in road accidents across the country in the last two days.
In Dhaka, transport worker Billal, 35, supervisor of Madhumoti Paribahan, was killed after a bus hit him near Gabtoli terminal in the city early yesterday.
The victim was on his way to work when the accident took place around 5:30am, said Farukul Alam, inspector (investigation) of Darussalam Police Station.
His body was kept at Shaheed Suhrawardy hospital morgue.
In another incident in Dhaka, transport worker Niranjan, 26, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) after he fell from a truck at Dayaganj in Jatrabari..
The accident left him critically injured, said Kazi Wazed Ali, officer-in-charge of Jatrabari Police Station, adding, he died on the way to the hospital.
An unidentified man was killed and another injured at Banigram union under Banshkhali upazila in Chattogram yesterday, reports our correspondent quoting locals.
The accident took place when a Banshkhali-bound bus skidded off the road to avoid collision with a three-wheeler on the highway, said Alauddin Talukdar, assistant sub-inspector of Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) police outpost.
In Jhalakathi, Jalal Uddin, 65, died after a three-wheeler hit him on Barishal-Khulna highway yesterday, reports our local correspondent.
Abul Kalam Azad, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Jhalakathi Police Station, said the accident took place while Jalal was crossing the road.
The driver of the vehicle was arrested, and the body was sent to a local hospital for autopsy, he added.
In Manikganj, Farid Hossain, a third-year student of Titumir College, died after his motorcycle hit a roadside bridge at Kherupara area under Harirampur upazila yesterday, UNB reports.
Officer-in-Charge of Harirampur Police Station Aminur Rahman, said Farid and his friend Akash were severely injured in the accident.
He succumbed to his injuries in the hospital while Akash was admitted to Manikganj General Hospital, the OC added.
Meanwhile, seven-year-old Jahan Mahia was crushed by a bus on Sylhet-Fenchuganj road under South Surma upazila on Friday, UNB reports.
The second-grader was the daughter of Md Helal Ahmed of Gopalgaon village in the same upazila.
Witnesses said, Kulaura-bound bus hit the girl around 2pm, leaving her dead on the spot.
Police recovered the body and handed it over to family members.
