Single-use cups, plates banned on JU campus
Jahangirnagar University authorities have banned all single-use cups and plates on campus, aiming to control spread of Aedes mosquitoes.
The decision was taken by a 10-member “Dengue Observation Cell” led by Pro-VC (admin) Prof Amir Hussain, said a press release.
“We have taken elaborate plans to stop the spread of dengue at source,” Prof Hussain told The Daily Star.
“The first phase -- spraying insecticide on campus -- finished on Tuesday, while the second phase will start from August 19, and third phase from September 15,” he added.
“We will also set up awareness-raising banners and billboards on campus within August 18,” he said.
Earlier, the authorities cancelled vacation of all cleaners and gardeners of the university to keep the premises free from mosquitoes.
