Road crashes kill 9 including 2 cops, 4 injured

Nine people, including two cops, were killed and four others injured in road accidents in six districts yesterday and on Sunday.

In the capital, Ronny, 30, a day labourer was killed as he was run over by a bus while crossing the Pragati Sharani road in Uttar Badda yesterday.

Following the incident, locals vandalised the bus of Anabil Paribahan and set it on fire blocking the road for about half an hour.

They also barred two units of firefighters from dousing the fire, said Fire Service men.

In Comilla, two people including a cop were killed and two others injured when a covered-van hit a police vehicle creating a pile-up of three other vans at Eliotganj Highway police check-post on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Daudkandi upazila yesterday.

The deceased were Rokon Uddin, 27, a police of the check-post and the helper of the covered-van whose identity could not be known immediately.

Following the accident, vehicular movement came to a halt for three hours creating a long tailback on the highway.

In Pirojpur Sadar, three people were killed and two others injured when a motorcycle hit a parked bus after the motorcyclist lost control over the vehicle on Pirojpur-Nazirpur road in Kadamtala village on Sunday.

The deceased were Mannan Sheikh, 17, Salman Kazi, 22, and Rubel Sheikh, 17, of the village.

In Dinajpur, Razib Hasan, 32, of Sirajganj was killed when a wheel of his motorcycle went off on Dinajpur-Dhaka highway in Rangamati village of Phulbari upazila yesterday.

In Norshingdi, Chabid Mia, 10, son of Rotan Mia of Dulalpur village was killed when a truck ran him over in Monditola area yesterday.

In Jessore, another cop was killed when a truck rammed his motorcycle on Nawapara-Narial road in Barni area of Abhaynagar upazila yesterday.

The deceased Aleq Khan, 45, of Khulna was a sub-inspector at Boalmari Police Station in Faridpur.
