Road crashes claim 10 lives
At least 10 people were killed in road accidents across the country in the last two days, our correspondents and news agencies report.
In Dinajpur, Jobaidul Islam (21) died at a hospital early yesterday after a bus ran him over in front of Birganj Govt College of Birganj upazila.
Witnesses said on Sunday, a battery-run three-wheeler hit Jobaidul’s motorcycle, and a bus then ran him over. He was taken to M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
In Bogura, three people, including a Higher Secondary Certificate examinee, were killed in separate road crashes in Shibganj and Shahjahanpur upazilas yesterday.
In Shibganj, two people were killed after a truck hit their motorbike in Choukirghat area in the morning, according to police officials.
The deceased are Rony (18) and Hanjela (24).
In Shahjahanpur, Robin (24) was killed after a truck hit his motorbike in Kamarpara area around 11am, said police.
In Faridpur, Padma Rani Goldar (69) was killed after a motorcycle ran her over in Joynagar Bottala area of Boalmari upazila around 1pm yesterday.
The motorcyclist fled the scene after the incident, police said.
Elsewhere in the district, Rakib Fakir (16) was killed after a pick-up truck hit his three-wheeler in Moshaujan area of Nagarkanda upazila around 9pm on Sunday, police said.
The truck was seized but its driver fled.
In Joypurhat, Kayem Mandal (50) was killed after a tractor hit his bicycle in Berakha Bazar area of Panchbibi upazila on Sunday night, said police.
In Mymensingh, Wazed Hasan Akanda Joy (21) died after his motorcycle collided with a human haulier in Sutar Chapur area of Gafargaon upazila on Sunday.
Robin was a student of BAF Shaheen College in Dhaka. He died on the spot, said police, quoting locals.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. Police seized the human haulier but its driver fled.
A case was lodged in this connection.
In Tangail, two pedestrians were killed after a truck ran them over on Tangail-Jamalpur highway in Dhanbari upazila on Sunday.
One of the deceased is Humayun Kabir (40). The other’s identity could not be known yet.
They died on the spot, said police. Later, the bodies were sent to Tangail General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
