Return extra fees taken from students within 10 days
Chittagong District Administration yesterday directed the heads of all private and city corporation-run schools in the city and district to return additional fees taken from the students within 10 days.
Deputy Commissioner Mesbah Uddin made the order at a meeting with the heads of 100 schools held in the conference room of his office. The charged fees are almost double than the previous year's, he said.
"We have got complaints from guardians against 15 private schools and 46 Chittagong City Corporation-run schools," said Mesbah.
It is unjust and against law and the District Administration will recommend to the government to cancel their monthly pay order (MPO) if they do so further, said the DC.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Md Doulutuzzaman Khan said there was no provision of taking readmission fees.
"Many schools are charging development, laboratory, scout and library fees but during inspection we do not find anything in support of those," he added.
Addressing the meeting, Anwara Begum of Bangladesh Mohila Samity School and College said they had to charge extra for development work.
Echoing her, Ahmed Shahin Al-Razi of Ispahani School and College said they also had to pay teachers beyond the MPO-listed ones.
