Raise voice for the displaced at UN climate confce: activists

Climate activists yesterday demanded that the government speak up at the upcoming UN conference for the most vulnerable group of people who are facing loss and damages due to natural disasters caused by climate change.

They said this at a press conference at Jatiya Press Club, ahead of the 25th UN Climate Change Conference to be held in Madrid, Spain on December 2-3.

They made four demands to the government at the event, organised by Civil Society Organizations on Climate Advocacy.

The demands are: developed countries must increase mitigation action target based on latest IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) report; developing a framework on implementing market-based mechanism on “Mitigation Outcome International Transfer”; ensuring easier access to green climate fund for most vulnerable countries unconditionally, and developing a work stream on displacement and migration issues.

The event was moderated by Ziaul Hoque Mukta, while the demands were presented by Syed Aminul Hoque.
