Probe body formed
A probe committee has been formed over Friday's road accident in Panchagarh Sadar upazila that left 10 people, including two women and two children, dead and 15 others injured.
The accident happened on Panchagarh-Banglabandha highway at Dashmile Bazar around 7:30pm when a Panchagarh-bound electric poles-laden truck hit a bus coming from the opposite direction.
All the victims were bus passengers. The accident turned fatal as the poles penetrated into the bus and badly damaged it, said police, adding that while trying to overtake a bus parked alongside the road, the truck changed the lane and hit the oncoming bus.
The same night, Panchagarh Deputy Commissioner Sabina Yasmin formed the five-member committee after visiting the spot. The committee, headed by Additional District Magistrate Ehtesham Reza, has been asked to file a report within three days. Highway police are also investigating the incident.
The DC gave Tk 20,000 each to the deceased's family and Tk 10,000 each for treatment of the injured, who are undergoing treatment at Panchagarh Sadar Hospital and Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
A case was filed with Panchagarh Police Station yesterday, said OC Abu Akhter Ahmad. Police are yet to detain the drivers.
Meanwhile, two people were killed after their motorbike was hit by a pick-up in Mohischar area of Madaripur around 7:00pm on Friday, reports our Faridpur correspondent.
The deceased are Kabir Khan, 35, of Shariatpur, and Mejbah Habibullah, 35, of Faridpur. Mejbah was a fireman of Madaripur Fire Service.
