Power lines to go below ground in Dhaka within 4 years: Nasrul Hamid
State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid today said power lines in Dhaka city will be below the ground within the next four years.
The junior minister came up with the remarks while inaugurating the installation of a 5KW wind power project on Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) campus.
He said work is underway in Dhanmondi area in this regard.
Nasrul said transparency and accountability in this sector will be further strengthened by integrating modern technologies, including smart grids and smart meters.
The state minister said wind mapping has been conducted in nine places of the country from 2014 to 2017 for wind power.
He said nearly 20,000MW of electricity can be generated from wind speed.
Nasrul further said nearly 650.32MW of electricity is currently being generated from renewable energy -- 416.39MW from solar, 2.9MW from wind and 230MW from hydropower.
