Bomb disposal unit defuses 31 bombs found in Uttara: DB
At least 31 crude bombs found from Uttara's sector-10 in the capital this evening have been defused by the bomb disposal unit of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
Kazi Shafiqul Alam, deputy commissioner of Detective Branch (DB) of Police of Dhaka Metropolitan Police confirmed the development to The Daily Star.
The bombs were recovered from holding-18 in road-13, Kazi Shafiqul Alam added.
The bombs were recovered from information provided by two Jubo Dal men – Mamun, general secretary of Dhaka city's 54 no. ward and activist Sumon arrested earlier in the day, the official added.
A team of DB police recovered the crude bombs from a flat of third floor of the six-storey under construction building around 5:00pm, he said.
Police earlier arrested a man named Rana in connection with a bomb blast near a polling centre in Uttara during the by-polls to the Dhaka-18 constituency on November 12.
During the interrogation, Rana disclosed some names, including Mamun and Sumon, who were involved in the bomb blast, said the DB official.
Shafiqul said Mamun and Sumon were involved in making crude bombs since 2012 and they also made the recovered 31 bombs.
Police are trying to identify the persons who directed the two Jubo Dal men to make the bombs, added the police official.
According to bomb disposal unit, the recovered 31 crude bombs were powerful than regular crude bombs.
