Nine arrested in Savar for robberies, murders
Police in separate drives on Wednesday and early yesterday arrested nine people in Savar, for their alleged involvement in several murder and robbery cases in the last month.
Shah Mizan Shafiur Rahman, superintendent of police (SP) of Dhaka, yesterday made the disclosure at a press conference held at Savar Model Police Station.
During primary investigation in a case filed over an auto rickshaw robbery after killing its driver, police came to know of the gang. Another member of the gang has gone into hiding, and police are conducting drives to arrest him, he said.
In primary interrogation, police have found their connection to multiple auto-rickshaw hijackings and murders, the SP said, adding that a number of them confessed to their involvement in the crimes.
All the arrestees were sent to a Dhaka court with remand prayers, according to police.
When asked about Swechchhasebak League leader Humayon Kabir murder, Shafiur said so far five people have been arrested in this connection, three of whom have confessed to police of the killing.
“We hope to arrest the other eight named accused in the case,” he added.
Kabir was allegedly picked up by local criminals from his office on April 11. Police recovered his floating body from river Dhaleshwari in Savar's Fulbaria area early Sunday.
