Murder for exercising opinion attack on constitution
Gonoforum President Dr Kamal Hossain yesterday said the killing of Buet student Abrar Fahad for exercising freedom of expression is an onslaught on the constitution.
“I won’t call them (who killed Abrar) sons; they are beasts. They kill innocent people. We’ve turned our sons into animals, and it’s appalling. We must free the country from this dire situation,” Dr Kamal said while speaking at a press conference by Gonoforum at the Jatiya Press Club, demanding proper trial of Abrar killing.
He further said, “Only those who are sick can indulge in such acts. A boy was beaten to death in such a brutal way for expressing his opinion. It’s an onslaught on our civilisation, achievements of our independence and the constitution,” reports UNB.
Dr Kamal said people’s freedom of expression has been clearly enshrined in the country’s constitution, and killing anyone for expressing dissenting opinion is completely against the constitution and the state.

A SECTION OF TEACHERS LEADING STUDENTS ASTRAY: OLI AHMED
A quarter of teachers are leading students astray instead of guiding them in the right direction, said Liberal Democratic Party President Col (retd) Oli Ahmed yesterday.
He was speaking in a press conference organised by Jatiya Mukta Mancha at the Jatiya Press Club.
Condemning the murder of Abrar Fahad, he alleged that the government has appointed unqualified teachers and vice-chancellors at universities on political consideration, and handed weapons to students to quell political dissent.
Regarding the recent anti-casino drive, Oli Ahmed said many Awami League leaders involved in casino and drug trade have not been arrested, nor have been lawmakers, ministers and leaders “who got their share from the casino trade”.
Syed Muhammed Ibrahim, Chairman of Bangladesh Kolyan Party; Ehsan Huda, Chairman of Jatiya Dal; and Kamaluddin Mustafa, standing committee member of LDP, were also present at the event.
