Muggers kill truck driver

A group of muggers stabbed and killed a truck driver in Sitakunda upazila on Chattogram-Dhaka highway early yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Sarwar Alam, 46, hailing from Kaliganj upazila of Jhenidah district, police said.

Sarwar was driving his truck to Chattogram when the gang stopped the truck in Mandaritola area around 6.00am, said Delwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Sitakunda Police Station, quoting locals.

They stabbed Sarwar in the thigh and snatched Tk 15,000 from him before leaving the spot, the OC said.

He was rushed to a local hospital where doctors pronounced him dead around 7:00am, the OC added.
