Mamunul among 43 sued for Tk 20cr misappropriation
Hefajat-e-Islam's former secretary general Mamunul Haque among 43 people has been sued for misappropriating Tk 20 crore.
Among the accused, 24 are religious speakers.
Maulana Abdur Razzak Kasemi, director of Al Madrasatu Mueenul Islam, filed a case with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Morshed Al Mamun Bhuiyan on Tuesday, court sources said.
The 24 accused religious speakers are Maunala Ataullah, Maulana Mahfuzul Haque, Mufti Selim Ullah, Maulana Shahriar Mahmud, Mufti Mamunur Rashid, Maulana Hanzala, Maulana Fakhrul Islam, Maulana Mahmudul Hasan, Maulana Bin Yamin, Maulana Golam Muktadir, Maulana Muinuddin, Maulana Nuru Alam, Maulana Ali, Maulana Yousuf, Maulana Foysal, Maulana Tarek, Maulana Talha, Maulana Abdur Razzak, Maulana Abdul Aziz, Maulana Mohammad Ali, Mufti Jasim Uddin, Maulana Jakir Hossain, Maulana Anowar Hossain and Maulana Anisur Rahman.
Hanzala Bin Jubair, Haji Jasim Uddin Dhali, Haji Aftab Uddin Dhali, Mamun Dhali, Faruk Hossain, Fazlur Rahman, Ferdous Dhali, Sumon Dhali, Al Amin, Abdur Rahman, Rakibul Islam, Mohammad Osman, Hafizur Rahman, Sulaiman, Bayzid, Hussain Ahmed, Yasin and Hafiz Mohammad Abu Sayem were also named in the case.
After hearing, the magistrate took the case into cognisance and recorded the complainant's statements on Tuesday.
The court also directed Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate the case and submit a report to it by July 17.
According to case documents, on October last year, around 250 people, led by 33 of the accused, illegally gathered near Al Madrasatu Mueenul Islam in the capital. At one stage, they stormed into the madrasa and looted cash and valuable documents.
On October 13 that year, the accused attacked teachers of the madrasa and some guardians with iron rods, sticks, sharp weapons and bamboo, and snatched away their money and phones, the complainant said.
Among the accused, other cases filed against Mamunul with various police stations are being looked into, according to the case statement.
