'Kidnapped' boy found dead in Gazipur

A 10-year-old boy was found dead in Sreenagar upazila of Gazipur yesterday, six days after he was allegedly kidnapped.

The boy -- Sadman Iqbal Rakin, son of a Shamim Iqbal --had appeared for primary education completion examination from Faugan Government Primary School this year.

Informed by locals, police recovered his body from a bamboo grove in Faugan area.

Sreenagar Police Station Sub-Inspector Shahidul Islam said the boy might have been strangled.

Sadman was missing since he went to a mosque near his home in the area for evening prayers on December 5, said his uncle Jahidul Islam.

An hour later, the boy's father received a phone call from his wife's number, of which the SIM card had been lost previously. The caller demanded Tk 10 lakh for his son's release, said Jahidul.

Afterwards, the phone was found switched off, he added.

Sadman's father filed a case in connection with the incident, said SI Shahidul.
