Impunity perpetuating child repression

Expressing deep concern about the recent attacks on children, National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Chairman Dr Mizanur Rahman said the culture of impunity was responsible for child repression in the country, adding that the state altogether failed to prevent it.

He said the only way to reduce the child repression is to bring perpetrators to book and ensure exemplary punishment for them.

Mizanur told these to the journalists at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) where he attended the freshers' reception ceremony of the BRUR 8th batch.

Prof Abdul Mannan, chairman of University Grants Commission, and Prof Dr Farzama Islam, vice-chancellor of Jahangirnagar University, were special guests at the programme presided by Prof Dr Nurun Nabi, vice-chancellor of BRUR.
