‘Human trafficker’ arrested in M’singh

Detectives arrested an alleged member of a human trafficker gang in Gouripur upazila of Mymensingh early yesterday.

The arrestee -- Dulal Mia (45) -- is from Ichhulia village in Gouripur.

Four people -- Shahidul Islam (32), Humayun Kabir Sujon (24), Sohel Mia (26), and Abdul Khaleque (46) from the upazila -- went to Saudi Arabia for jobs four months ago, according to law enforcers.

Each of the four gave Dulal Tk 6 lakh for this purpose, Shah Kamal Akanda, officer-in-charge of DB, Mymensingh, quoted their families as saying.

Now they are being harassed in the KSA as they were sent there with fake documents, said the OC.

Being informed, Superintendent of Mymensingh Police Mohammad Ahmar Uzzaman directed the detective branch (DB) of police to investigate the incident and took necessary actions, he said.

On Sunday night, Abdul Hamid, father of Shahidul Islam, filed a case with Gouripur Police Station accusing Dulal, who was arrested at his relative's house in the area, said the police officer.

A Mymensingh court placed Dulal on a one-day remand after he was produced before it with a seven-day remand prayer, said OC Shah Kamal.
