Graft Case: Mir Nasir gets SC bail

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court yesterday granted bail to BNP leader and former state minister for civil aviation Mir Mohammad Nasiruddin in a corruption case in which he was sentenced to 13 years' imprisonment.
A three-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain granted the bail on the ground of ongoing Covid-19 situation, following a bail petition filed by Mir Nasir.
Lawyers M Asaduzzaman and Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal appeared for Nasir while Anti-Corruption Commission's lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan opposed the petition.
On November 8 last year, a Dhaka court sent Mir Nasir to jail on his surrender in the case. He then filed the petition with the apex court seeking bail on health ground.
On July 4, 2007, an anti-graft tribunal sentenced Nasir to 13 years in jail for two corruption offences and sentenced his son to three years for abetting his father.
On March 6, 2007, ACC Deputy Director Sharmin Ferdous filed a graft case against Nasir with Gulshan Police Station for amassing properties illegally.
According to the charge sheet, Nasir, his wife late Dalia Naznin Nasir, daughter and son have wealth worth Tk 29.22 crore. But they showed properties worth about Tk 22.50 crore in the statement.
