Form special tribunal for expats’ cases: HRPB
Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB), a rights organisation, has demanded that the government form a special tribunal for settling cases filed by Bangladeshi expatriates over their land and harassment.
“If the problems of Bangladeshi expatriates are not solved, their future generations will become detached from the country, which will have an adverse effect on economy,” said Manzill Murshid, president of the human rights watchdog.
He made the remarks at a seminar organised by the UK Unit of HRPB at Brady Arts Centre in East London on July 31, said a press release.
Advocate Manzil Murshid told the seminar that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and other government officials are eager to solve the problems of Bangladeshi expatriates.
However, there is lack of progress due to bureaucratic obstacles, Murshid added.
He urged officials to be more sincere in solving the problems of Bangladeshi expatriates.
At the seminar, some expatriates spoke about different problems regarding their land, harassment due to false cases, and national identity cards.
Mokabbir Khan, lawmaker from Bishwanath-Osmani Nagar constituency in Bangladesh; Croydon Council’s Mayor Humayun Kabir; Newham Council’s Deputy Speaker Barrister Nazir Ahmed, and Tower Hamlets Council’s Deputy Speaker Ahbab Hossain spoke on the ocassion, among others.
