Five Ctg cops hurt in attack by 'drug dealer', family

Five policemen were injured allegedly in an attack by an accused in three cases for drug trading and attack on on-duty police officials, and his family members and neighbours during a raid at Halishahar Rangipara in Chittagong city on Tuesday night.

The injured cops, Sub-Inspectors Mizanur Rahman, Himel Roy, and Nur Absar; and assistant SIs Zakir Hosain and Md Sharif were given primary treatment, said Pronab Chowdhury, officer-in-charge (OC) of Halishahar police.

"We have arrested four till yesterday morning," said the OC.

The arrestees were Md Sohel, 25, and his father Jahangir Alam, 60; and neighbours Shahnaj Akter, 25, and Chhabi Akter, 23.

On information, cops conducted a drive to arrest  him, said the OC, adding, sensing their presence, Sohel "attacked" them with a piece of sharp glass and soon his family members and neighbours "joined" by hurling stones.

Police arrested Sohel and his father from the spot, and in another drive yesterday, arrested Shahnaj and Chhabi from the area, the OC said.
