Family blames health complex for patient’s death
A patient died at Hathazari Upazila Health Complex in Chattogram yesterday due to negligence in treatment, alleged family members.
Following the incident, the aggrieved family demonstrated on its premises.
Md Shahjahan, 48, of Adarsha Gram in the upazila, had been suffering from fever for four days, said his son Zakir Hossain.
“We admitted him to the health complex on Saturday morning after the doctor at outdoor service advised us. At night, when my father’s health condition deteriorated, we went to the room of the medical officer to inform him but he did not respond,” Zakir alleged.
“The doctor said he would see my father in the morning. We also went to the nurses’ duty room but to no avail,” he added. Zakir further alleged that the doctor was watching television while some nurses were asleep and others were busy on the phone.
“After struggling the entire night, my father died in the morning,” he said.
Contacted, SM Imtiaz Hossain, Hathazari upazila health and family welfare officer, said they have formed a three-member probe committee to look into the allegation.
The committee has been asked to submit the report in four working days, he said.
