Ex-MP Abdul Baten passes away

Khandakar Abdul Baten, a former lawmaker, died in Dhaka early yesterday after he suffered a cardiac arrest. He was 76.

He left behind his wife, two sons, a daughter and a host of relatives and admirers.

Baten, also a freedom fighter, was elected lawmaker from Tangail-6 (Nagarpur-Delduar) constituency in 2008 and 2014 as an independent and Awami League candidate respectively.

He was vice president of Chhatra Sangsad of Sadaat College in Karatia during the '60s and convener of Greater Mymensingh Students' Society during the 1969 mass movement.

Baten's first namaz-e-janaza was held at the south plaza of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban at 1:30pm.

He will be buried at his family graveyard in Konora village of Nagapur upazila with state honour after the second janaza at Sheikh Russel Mini Stadium at 11am today.
