Ex-BNP lawmaker sent to jail

A Mymensingh court yesterday sent a former BNP lawmaker to jail in connection with a case filed against him under the Special Powers Act in February.

Shah Nurul Kabir Shaheen, a former BNP lawmaker of Mymensingh-8 constituency, was arrested from his residence in Ishwarganj early yesterday, said OC Ahmed Kabir Hossain of Ishwarganj Police Station.

Shaheen is also accused in three other cases, he said.

AKM Mahbubul Alam, organising secretary of BNP (South) district unit, protested the arrest.
