DPDC penalises errant subscribers

Dhaka Power Distribution Company Ltd (DPDC) during a week-long special taskforce drive realised over Tk 9 crore in outstanding dues and penalties till yesterday, said a DPDC press release.

Starting in March 2, the drive, led by the DPDC Secretary Mohammad Munir Chowdhury, also detected 1.33 lakh units of power pilfered.

A total of 124 power connections were severed, and two cases were filed in relation to power pilferage during the drive conducted in Motijheel, Gopibagh, RK Mission Road, Jurain, Saydabad, Narinda, and Lalbagh.

The revenues realised included Tk35 lakh in fine and 15-year-old overdue power bills.

Meter tampering and bypass connection were detected as a means of huge power pilferage.

The ongoing drive would greatly help raise awareness of problems of massive power wastage, said Munir.
