Demand raised for scrapping 'anomalous' circular

Bangladesh Railway Station Master and Karmachary Union yesterday demanded cancellation of the recruitment circular for assistant station masters, published on October 30 last year, where the offered salary scale is lower than the existing one.

The union leaders also demanded that the authorities republish it after correction within February 25.

They came up with the demand at a press conference at Chittagong Press Club.

Debtosh Barua, vice-president of Chittagong-unit of the union, while reading out a written statement, said in the circular for recruiting 270 assistant station masters for railways, published on different newspapers, the salary scale was mentioned Tk 4,700 and required educational qualification was graduation.

However, the salary scale is Tk 4,900 with that educational qualification for station masters since 2009. Demands have also been made several times to raise the scale, he said.

The speakers also demanded upgrading the rank of the station masters from grade three to two. They also threatened to go for strict demonstrations, including work abstention, if the demands were not met.
