CCC polls violence: Councilor candidate among 11 placed on remand

A Chattogram court today placed 11 people including Abdul Quader, a councilor candidate in the upcoming city corporation elections, on a three-day remand over the death of a man during a pre-election violence yesterday.

Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Shafi Uddin passed the order after police produced them before his court with a 10-day remand prayer, said Inspector Shahdat Hossain Khan of Detective Branch of CMP and also the investigation officer of the case.

Azgar Ali Babul (52), a supporter of Nazrul Islam Bahadur, Awami League-backed councilor candidate in ward-28 of CCC, was shot dead and another was injured in a clash between supporters of two ward councilor candidates in the port city's Mogoltuli Mogpukur Par area last night.

Following the clash, police and Rab in a joint drive arrested 26 people including Quader, also a Jubo League leader.

Sejan Mahmud, Babul's son, filed a case with Double Mooring Police Station naming 13 people including Quader and some 30 unidentified people, said Inspector Shahadat.
