Bangladeshi FFs' children getting Indian scholarships
India yesterday started handing over scholarships to children of Bangladeshi freedom fighters, Tk 24,000 annually for four years to undergraduates and Tk 10,000 annually for two years to higher secondary students.
Addressing the distribution ceremony in the capital's Bangladesh National Museum, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Harsh Vardhan Shringla said 800 undergraduate students would be getting the scholarships this year.
Beginning in 2006, the initiative has provided more than Tk 13 crore to over 9,500 students selected on the basis of merit, says an Indian high commission press release.
The high commission and Bangladesh-India Friendship Society organised the function where Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozzammel Huq handed over cheques to children of Dhaka's freedom fighters.
Similar events will be held in Barisal, Khulna, Sylhet, Rangpur, Chittagong and Rajshahi.
International Affairs Adviser to the Prime Minister Dr Gowher Rizvi was present.
