AL leader Taher's son freed from jail
The elder son of Laxmipur municipality mayor and Awami League leader Abu Taher, who got his death sentence pardoned and life imprisonment commuted to 10 years by the president in separate murder cases, was released from jail yesterday.
AHM Aftab Uddin Biplob was freed in the morning after he served his jail terms in two cases, said M Shah Alam, jailer of Laxmipur jail.
On September 18, 2000, Advocate Nurul Islam, the then organising secretary of Laxmipur BNP, was abducted and hacked to death by Biplob and his associates.

Later, his father filed mercy petitions with then president Zillur Rahman.
In July that year, the president pardoned him in the Nurul Islam murder case. In February, 2012, the president commuted Biplob's life imprisonment in the Kamal and Mohsin killing cases to 10 years.
