They were self-radicalised by watching online videos of various militant groups, and were planning to launch attacks on law enforcers, said Saiful Islam, deputy commissioner of Counter Terrorism unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

The arrestees were identified as Md Shiblee Shahjad alias Sadi, Shah M Asadullah Mortuza Kabir alias Ababil, Masrik Ahmed, Md Ashraful Al Amin alias Tarek and SM Tasnim Rifat, he added.

They were arrested yesterday around 1:45pm from Bashundhara Residential Area in the capital, the police official said.
