2 journalists attacked in Old Dhaka
Two journalists of private channel News24 were attacked, allegedly by traders at Nayabazar in old Dhaka, this afternoon on their way to cover a drive by Customs Bond Commissionerate.
Senior Reporter Fakhrul Islam and Senior Cameraperson Sheikh Jalal were being treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital after some locals rescued them, their colleague Mou Khandaker told The Daily Star.
The attackers also damaged their vehicle, camera and backpack during the attack.
A group of people, mostly local traders, swooped on the journalists around 2:00pm when they were on their way to Armanitola where officials of Customs Bond were carrying out drives against traders involved in buying and selling products and raw materials imported using bond benefit.
"We are carrying out drive as selling such products in the open market instead of using in export oriented industries is illegal. We came to know that journalists were attacked on their way to cover the drive," said Md Al Amin, an assistant commissioner of Customs Bond.
