16 killed on roads during Eid holidays
At least 16 people were killed and 36 injured in road accidents in eight districts during the Eid holidays.
In Tangail, a bus helper was killed and 20 passengers were injured after the bus skidded off the road and fell into a ditch beside Bangabandhu Bridge east link road on Saturday.
The deceased is Fazlur Rahman (50) of Bogura.
The accident took place in Hatia area of Kalihati upazila around noon when the driver of a Dhaka-bound bus from Bogura lost control over the steering while trying to avoid collision with a human haulier, said OC Shafiqul Islam of Bangabandhu Bridge East Police Station.
In Narayanganj, a schoolboy was killed and eight of his friends were injured as a human haulier carrying them plunged into a canal in Araihazar upazila yesterday.
The deceased is Nayeem Hossain (16), a class VII student and resident of Bajbi village, said SI Shamim Al Mamun of Araihazar Police Station.
In another incident, a man was killed and three others were injured after an auto-rickshaw hit him in Boro Binairchhara area upazila on Saturday.
The deceased, Md Mohiuddin Miah (50), used to live in the same area, said OC Nazrul Islam of Araihazar Police Station.
In Chapainawabganj, three labourers were killed and six injured after a truck hit a human haulier in Nachole upazila on Saturday morning.
The deceased are Jahidul Islam (23), Rezaul Karim (45) and Abdul Malek (40) of Gomastapur upazila.
The victims were heading to Niamatpur upazila of Naogaon for harvesting paddy, said OC Selim Reza of Nachole Police Station.
In Jhenidah, a motorcyclist was killed and another injured when the motorbike collided head-on with a speeding truck at Nauda village of Kotchandpur on Friday afternoon.
The deceased is Rakib Hossain (27) of Kaliganj upazila, said OC Moyeen Uddin of Kotchandpur Police Station.
In Feni, a man was crushed under the wheel of a truck in Chanpur Bridge area of Chagolnaiya upazila on Saturday.
The deceased is Obaidul Haque Mazumder (70) of Pathan Nagar, said police.
In Satkhira, two schoolboys were killed in a motorcycle accident at Tarali village under Kaliganj on Saturday.
The deceased are Touhidul Islam (16), and Reaz Morol Shisir (15). The accident occurred when the rider lost control over the motorbike and hit a roadside tree, said police.
In Thakurgaon, four people were killed in separate road accidents on Thursday night and Friday.
Of the victims, Rajib (22) of Rator village in Ranishankoil was killed on Friday noon when his motorbike hit a roadside tree.
Another victim Sharif Uddin (70) of Baliadangi upaizla was killed as his motorbike collided head-on with another bike on Friday afternoon in Sadar upazila.
Uzzal (27) of Sadar upazila died on the spot when his motorbike hit a roadside tree at Pirganj upazila on Friday night.
Besides, Makbul Hossain (70) of Ranishankoil upazila died after a thick rope hanging from a moving truck hit him while he was trying to overtake the vehicle riding on a motorcycle at Mirdangi Bazar on Thursday.
In Sirajganj, at least two people were killed in road accidents on Sirajganj highway early Thursday. Identities of the victims, a man and a woman, could not be known.
They died on the spot as speeding vehicles hit them in Gol-Chottor and Tabaripara areas, said police.
