Lawmakers to get flats, plots

Every member of parliament (MP) will get plots along with flats fulfilling “easy conditions”, Housing and Public Works Minister Mosharraf Hossain told parliament yesterday. 

Taking part in a discussion on the budget, he said around 1 lakh flats would be constructed under Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha's supervision and MPs demanding plots can instead avail this opportunity and take flats.

Without microphones, treasury and opposition bench MPs started shouting “no” and demanded plots. The chaos forced the minister to stop his speech. Normalcy returned after several minutes thanks to Deputy Speaker Fazle Rabbi Miah who was presiding at that time. The minister then said the government has taken a project to construct flats on over 2,200 acres of land. “MPs will be able to get plots after taking flats on completion of the project,” he said.
