Landslide halts communication

Road communication between Kapasia and Sreepur has been suspended since yesterday due to a landslide at Doshunarayanpur Bazar on the bank of the Shitalakkhya River.

A large portion of land including crop fields and a part of the road subsided on Sunday night, said locals adding, local residents got panicked by the incident.

In February 2003, a similar incident happened at the same place, locals said. Later, Local Government Engineering Department filled the damaged parts with earth and repaired the road.

Kapasia Upazila Executive Officer Maksudul Islam, Kapasia Police Station Officer-in-charge Abu Bakar Siddique and Kapasia UP Chairman Sakhawat Hossain visited the spot.
