Khadiza shifted to cabin, now able to eat food on her own
Physicians yesterday shifted Khadiza to a cabin from the High Dependency Unit of Square Hospital as her condition began improving.
Rejaus Sattar, a neurosurgeon of the hospital, told The Daily Star that doctors would now observe her condition for a couple of weeks and plan her next treatment.
Her father Mashuk Miah said he fed her breakfast in the cabin and she was able to take solid food on her own.
A 23-year-old student of Sylhet Government Women's College Khadiza Begum Nargis was brutally hacked by Badrul Alam, a Bangladesh Chhatra League leader of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, with a machete on the MC College campus on October 3 when she went there to sit for an examination.
Since last week, Khadiza had been able to recognise and call her family members by their names, her father Mashuk Miah said earlier.
The attack on Khadiza left her in coma. As she started regaining consciousness, physicians noticed that she could not move her left limbs.
Doctors operated on her right hand on October 17 and said there were injuries on her left hand that needed surgeries, but they would wait till her overall condition further improves.
Following the attack, Badrul was caught and handed over to police by locals.
He confessed to a Sylhet magistrate that he attempted to kill her after she had refused to be in a relationship with him.
