JU meeting on journo assault Oct 20
Jahangirnagar University (JU) yesterday announced holding a disciplinary board meeting on October 20 and a special syndicate meeting the next day to raise the issue, among others, of a journalist being beaten up by some Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) men.
Shafiqul Islam, JU correspondent of bdnews24.com, was assaulted on June 8 when he and some others went to the aid of a woman who jumped off the motorcycle of an alleged abductor near the main entrance.
JU suspended JU BCL religious affairs secretary Mohitosh Roy Titu of history, assistant secretary Ikram Uddin Omi of marketing and activist Iqram Nahid of statistics while the student organisation suspended Titu over the incident.
Meanwhile, JU Journalists' Association suspended their two-day blockade of the registrar building beginning yesterday. A number of journalists had signed and handed over a memorandum to the vice-chancellor on October 9.
