JnU teachers change decision again
Backing out of their previous decision, Jagannath University teachers yesterday said they would hold the admission tests scheduled for today.
"We decided to conduct Friday's admission tests after a request from the academic council and considering the anxiety of the admission seekers and their parents," JnU Teachers' Association President Prof Ali Noor told The Daily Star.
But the decision of not holding the tests slated for October 16 and 30 will remain in effect, he added.
On Wednesday, the JnU Teachers' Association announced that they would not hold the admission tests this month, demanding reform in the eighth payscale and formulation of a separate pay structure for public university teachers.
Hours after that, FBUTA expelled the JnU Teachers' Association temporarily from their alliance for bypassing the federation's decision and called the act "anti-disciplinary".
The representatives of FBUTA, a platform of the teachers' associations of 37 public universities, met Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Tuesday, conveying their decision that they would conduct all classes and examinations this month, and the government should meet their demand for a separate payscale by this time; otherwise they would start an indefinite work stoppage from November 1.
Teachers of all 37 public universities under the banner of FBUTA have been staging protests since May demanding a separate payscale.
