HC stays Dhamrai chairman's suspension
The High Court yesterday stayed a government order that suspended Md Tamiz Uddin, upazila chairman of Dhamrai in Dhaka, on December 8 for the next six months.
It also issued a rule upon the government to explain why the order should not be declared illegal.
Tamiz's lawyer Shanjid Siddique said his client was suspended for being sued over arson.
Meanwhile, the HC directed the Election Commission to allow Abdul Wahid Maznu to be a mayor candidate of Sunamganj's Chhatak Pourasava.
The order came following a writ petition filed by Wahid challenging the EC's decision that recently cancelled his candidacy on a loan default allegation, said his lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan.
