Girl commits suicide after being freed on bail

A schoolgirl committed suicide by jumping off a seven-storied building in the capital yesterday, a day after being freed on bail, to escape public censure and shame, claimed her family.

According to OC Sayedur Rahman Bhuiyan of Puthia Police Station in Rajshahi, locals caught the girl and two youths in her house in Puthia municipality on Friday night for “selling sex”.

The next day, the trio, including the teenage girl,  SSC examinee, were sent to a Rajshahi court on charges of conducting anti-social activities.

Her mother took her to their relatives' house at Nakhalpara in Dhaka the same day. She was declared dead at a hospital in Tejgaon Industrial Area.
