Full committee of Ctg city BNP formed after 12 years
The full committee of Chittagong city unit BNP was formed on Monday, after 12 years.
The present committee was partially formed in August last year with Shahadat as president, Abul Hashem Bakkar as general secretary.
Party Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia asked them to form the full committee immediately at that time, party sources said.
However, the leaders could not declare a full committee although nearly one year of its three-year tenure had already passed.
Finally, after 11 months, the 275-member full committee was formed and it includes 30 vice-presidents and 12 joint general secretaries, party sources said.
According to the BNP constitution, the size of the committee should be 171-member but the new committee was formed under “special consideration” of the party chief, committee President Bakkar said.
The last full committee of the unit was formed in 1997 and was abolished in 2005 when a convening committee was formed. After that, another convening committee was formed in 2008. Then another committee was formed the following year but the committee also “failed” to form full committee, party sources said.
