100 shanties burnt in Karwan Bazar slum fire

At least 100 shanties were burnt in a fire that broke out at a slum in Karwan Bazar area of Dhaka this afternoon.

Fire fighters are conducting a search and rescue operation at the fire ravaged area after dousing it, Bangla daily Prothom Alo reports quoting Debashish Bardhan, deputy director of fire service department.

The fire originated at the slum around 12:30pm, Farid Uddin, duty officer of Fire Brigade and Civil Defence, told The Daily Star.

On information, four fire fighting units rushed to the spot and doused the blaze around 12:50pm, the duty officer said.

No injury was reported from the incident, he added.
